This immersion into Yoga practice, lifestyle and philosophy is a chance to restore, explore and find the space and peace for personal growth.
Rupesh: Our mind and body are inseparable. Take this time to become aware of your thoughts and how you can affect your thought patterns. Become more aware of your body and how its movements affect your mind. Gently work with your mind and body to overcome your limitations, to experience your full potential and to truly be alive in both the mind and body. Mindful yoga is a way of achieving joy, happiness and peacefulness, and discovering the true nature of ourselves.
At this retreat we will spend time seeing, listening, and feeling; nurturing our consciousness through the practice of movement, breathwork and meditative stillness. We will underpin this by studying the philosophical bases of yoga, and taking a teaching from the highest teacher of the monastery. You are invited to join me to become invigorated and to renew your energy by enhancing your power and your intimacy with life itself.
In a stunning Tibetan monastery nestled in the Himalayan foothills outside Kathmandu valley, join these three transformational days to discover Yoga as the harmony of the mind, body and soul, to delve into Yoga philosophy and psychology, and to explore Yogas practical tools to bring integration and joyful balance into the various dimensions of our lives.
On this retreat we will experience how different sequences of poses influence our body, mind and energy and explore the art of sequencing poses to enhance our mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
Take this time to become aware of your thoughts and how you can affect your thought patterns. Become more aware of your body and how its movements affect your mind. Gently work with your mind and body to overcome your limitations, to experience your full potential and to feel truly present and alive. Mindful yoga is a way of achieving joy, happiness and peacefulness, and discovering the true nature of ourselves.
We will spend time practising postures (asana), breathwork, meditation and reflection, and underpin this by studying the philosophical bases of yoga and taking a teaching from the highest teacher of the monastery.
We will see how our breath changes our mental state and how we can use breathing techniques to pause our reactions, taking time to make all of our decisions come from a calmer, more settled place inside ourselves.
Whether you are a beginner or practice yoga regularly, come and enjoy the powerful energy, peace and surroundings of the retreat and take away a new practice to develop and treasure, including:
- what yoga is and how it can benefit you

Your teacher Rupesh Joshi
I was fortunate to meet many yoga teachers during my life. They always gave me warmth and support, and under their guidance I learnt yoga.
I believe that when we practice yoga consistently and devotional, one day we will be able to overcome lifes challenges and our fear of death, not just by intellectual reasoning and getting experience in facing our problems, but because a real realization happens. Yoga is the way. Yoga is the means to understand the truth, not just for health and well being, not just for living. Yoga is everything in life to me.
I am a certified yoga teacher from the International Sivananda Yoga Centre. I hold a master degree in Buddhism, where yoga is also the part of the course, and I studied Sanskrit, the language of yoga, at the Sanskrit University and the White Gompa.
Neydo Monastery
The lamas from the monastery decided to build accommodation for visitors on the monastery premisses so that guest can learn about Buddhism and their monastery, and the income would help fund the education of the monks. The lovely guest accommodation has spacious and modern rooms, comfortable beds for deep and refreshing sleeps, all with attached bathrooms, and built in Tibetan style.
The yoga hall has the view of the main monastery hall and the roof top is also a great place for morning class with a beautiful view. Kunsang, the Tibetan chef, cooks a great fusion of Tibetan, Indian and Nepali vegetarian food which always delights our guests.
Pharping
Pharping has two main meditation caves that are considered especially powerful because they are associated with Shiva (as well as the nearby Dakshinkali Temple). The caves are also associated with Guru Rinpoche, the teacher who established Buddhism in Tibet. So the whole area is key to the interesting mix of Hinduism and Buddhism in Kathmandu.
A couple of very important contemporary Tibetan masters have been key in re-invigorating the Buddhist practice at Pharping by establishing centers there Chagdud Tulku (recently passed away, autobiography entitled Lord of the Dance) and Chatral Rinpoche (one of the eldest and most revered meditation masters still alive). After they set up their centres, there has a been a slew of new monasteries in the last 15 years. The Neydo Tashi Choling Monastery, our home during the retreat, gives education to many monks from remote areas of Nepal.
